Government of India has been offering scholarships to the nationals of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam under Mekong Ganga Scholarship Scheme since 2005. Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) is the Nodal Agency administering the scholarship. Upto 2023-24 total 437 Scholarships were provided by ICCR and for 2024-25, 50 slots have been offered under under MGC Scholarship Scheme for each academic year at the level of undergraduate/ postgraduate/Ph.D courses in Indian Universities to the students from Mekong Countries. This Scheme has now been further increased from 50 to 171 for next five years from AY 2026-27 to AY 2030-31 with the existing Terms and Conditions. Apart from the ICCR scholarships, 10 scholarships for courses in Museology and Conservation Techniques is offered at National Museum Institute and 905 scholarships for short-duration training programs are offered under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme. The details are: Myanmar-400, Cambodia 250, Viet Nam 130, Lao PDR-85 and Thailand-40.
